A big thanks to all our recent donors!
In the tri-county area of Hancock and Brooke, WV and Jefferson County, OH there are over 15,000 individuals diagnosed with some form of intellectual or developmental disability. People with disabilities are the nation’s largest minority group that anyone can join at any time; whether it be at birth, an accident, or by the natural aging process. Unfortunately, there is no safe place for these individuals to engage in structured or impromptu recreational activity. We saw this as an opportunity to serve our community in a meaningful way.
In a public private partnership, we sought to remove the barriers to safe, inclusive, engaging, and accessible recreation for all ages and abilities.
We created a plan to develop approximately 2.8 acres of land in the city limits of Weirton, WV in Hancock County. The design features a twelve feet high dual slide, a two rail zip line, a forty yard turf dash, a champion's challenge course, and a Miracle League Baseball Field. With plenty of shading, the unitarian surfacing throughout the space accommodates everyone of all ages and abilities.
